What do childhood best friends and a love of food create? A local pizza hub
Mastiff Kitchen in San Diego is the result of a lifelong friendship and a passion for great food. Co-owner Eric Gallerstein started his culinary journey in college, working in various restaurants before teaming up with his childhood friend Jacob Bartlett to launch Mastiff Sausage Company. What began as a food truck serving house-made sausages evolved over time, especially during the pandemic when pizza became a go-to comfort food. Recognizing an opportunity, they expanded into the pizza business, blending their commitment to quality ingredients with a menu that caters to local tastes.
Located in a former 7-Eleven turned restaurant space, Mastiff Kitchen has embraced the vibrant beer culture of San Diego, maintaining a strong craft beer program with 30 taps of local brews. Eric acknowledges the challenges of the restaurant industry, especially without alcohol sales, but their focus on community, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere has made Mastiff Kitchen a staple in the area. With their signature crispy pan pizzas, flavorful sausages, and a passion for hospitality, Mastiff Kitchen is not just a restaurant — it’s a local hub that brings people together.
