Much Ado About Pizza: A story of passion and perseverance
Kira never planned on opening a pizzeria. She was a theater and English teacher who, like many during the pandemic, found comfort in baking sourdough. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion, and soon she and her husband were experimenting with making pizzas at home.
With encouragement from friends and family, they started hosting small pop-ups. Instead of jumping into a food truck or a brick-and-mortar location immediately, they tested the waters by setting up at local wineries. This allowed them to refine their craft, introduce their brand, and build a following without the overhead of a full restaurant.
Eventually, they found a small space in Pleasanton, California, and Much Ado About Pizza was born. The location was previously a take-and-bake pizza shop, which presented challenges in how customers perceived them. Without a large dining area or a traditional oven, they had to prove that their sourdough pizza was a premium product. Slowly but surely, word spread.
A major turning point came when they landed on Yelp’s Top 100 Restaurants in the U.S. This recognition, combined with their focus on community involvement and charity work, catapulted their business forward. Despite early struggles and moments of doubt, Kira and her husband built a thriving pizzeria with a dedicated customer base.
Today, Much Ado About Pizza is looking to expand, balancing growth with maintaining the quality that put them on the map. Their story is a testament to persistence, creativity, and the power of putting yourself out there.
