State of the Super Bowl: the post-game analysis

The superest day of the year came and went, but the day left us with some shockingly interesting stats that are sure to be right up your alley. We’re here with the post-game analysis, pizza style. Understanding this data will help position your shop to be prepped for next year.

The Red Zone highlights:

  • Number of slices ordered from independent pizzerias in the hour before kickoff: 3,927,000 (about the same population as the city of Los Angeles)

  • Number of miles traveled by independent pizzeria delivery drivers yesterday: 12,245,100 (that would be ~491 times around the earth)

  • Number of pizzas you could order from independent shops for the cost of a Super Bowl ad: 425,079 (Yes, you did the math right. That is about $7,791,698)

  • Number of slices from independent pizzerias eaten on the superest of days: 20,150,512 (about the total number of penguins in Antarctica)

Key takeaway from these estimates? Pizza eaters, shop owners and employees kicked it into overdrive yesterday. It was no small task to accomplish what your shop did.

Thinking about how this can impact your preparation next year? We recommend focusing on staffing and shop hours. We saw orders double the typical velocity about three hours before game time (ultimately peaking at 5:27pm ET). That means you should have extra staff on hand as early as 2pm ET, not to mention other prep details.
