A slice of passion: Inside Tribute Pizza in San Diego

Located in the vibrant North Park neighborhood of San Diego, Tribute Pizza is not your average pizzeria. It is a heartfelt homage to some of the greatest pizzas and pizza makers across the country. Founded by Matt, a San Diego native with a deep love for the craft, Tribute Pizza began as a pop-up and has grown into one of the city’s must-visit destinations.

Matt’s journey is a testament to passion and persistence. He started in the pizza business as a high school delivery driver and eventually turned his enthusiasm into a thriving career. After spotting a lease sign at a corner spot in North Park, he transformed the space into the beautiful, bustling restaurant it is today.

The concept of Tribute Pizza is unique. Each pizza on the menu honors a specific pizzeria, style, or person who has inspired Matt. From New York-style pies cooked in a wood-fired oven to a Detroit-style tribute, the menu takes you on a delicious journey through pizza history. Their best-seller, the Bee’s Mode, pays homage to Mike’s Hot Honey and Pauly Gee's, blending soppressata, pickled sweet peppers, and a drizzle of honey for the perfect sweet-and-savory bite.

Tribute Pizza also stands out for its community-driven approach. During our visit, Matt shared a story about creating a special pizza to support victims of the LA fires, with all proceeds going to affected families and businesses. This sense of connection and care extends to every part of Tribute Pizza, from the locally sourced ingredients to the friendly and passionate staff.

Whether you’re a pizza enthusiast, a foodie, or just looking for a great meal in San Diego, Tribute Pizza is more than just a restaurant. It is a celebration of the people and stories that make pizza extraordinary.
